Rumkicks
Rumkicks is a trailblazing all-female punk band hailing from Seoul, South Korea. Formed in 2018 by guitarist and vocalist Jung Yeawon, the group has become known for its high-energy performances, sharp-edged sound, and fearless social commentary. Their music blends pogo-punk and pop-punk influences with a distinctly Korean sensibility, a style they’ve dubbed “post-Joseon punk”.
The band’s lyrics confront issues such as gender discrimination, mental health, and online harassment. Notable tracks include “Don’t Touch My Head,” inspired by an incident of personal boundary violation, and “Punk is Nowhere,” a response to online criticism labeling them as “fashion punks” . Their 2022 single “Proud of Madness” serves as an anthem for mental health awareness, featuring members of fellow Korean punk band 18Fevers.
Rumkicks has garnered international acclaim, performing at major festivals like the UK’s Rebellion Festival in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2023, they released their debut album Born Rude, followed by their second full-length album Hit a Nerve (逆鱗) in April 2025. The band is currently signed to Austria’s SBÄM Records and Korea’s Steel Face Records.
In 2025, Rumkicks embarked on an extensive Asian tour, with performances in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore. “They are set to continue their global presence with a European tour, sharing stages with punk legends such as the Sex Pistols and GBH “.
With their unapologetic energy and commitment to challenging societal norms, Rumkicks stands as a powerful voice in the global punk scene.
